reasons to get away: context-sensitive vacation ads

Posted by adiamondinsunlight on July 7, 2007

The English-language Daily Star ran an advertisement last week that amused me with its creators’ savvy approach to the Lebanese market.

First, the advertisement (probably a standard Cyprus Airways image) shows a couple who do not necessarily appear Lebanese.

Second, it refers obliquely to the political situation (“worries”).

Third, it suggests that readers can not only envision themselves escaping the “worry” of the ongoing situation here, but are willing if not eager to do so.

As for me, I’m a pale inside creature (hence the blog). I may be interested in turning my back to my worries – but to my laptop? Never :-)!
