more debate non-coverage, from LBC

Posted by adiamondinsunlight on October 9, 2008

Today is one of those working-with-steam-coming-out-my ears days, so I’m afraid this blog is getting short shrift. (And please don’t think that I shortchange my employer: I put in a good 9 hours of solid, focused work time each day.)

I will post about Arabiya and Jazeera’s debate coverage, but for now I wanted to quickly mention what LBC was broadcasting: May Chidiac’s interview, in English, with Deputy Secretary of State for Near East Affairs David Hale.

I found it excruciatingly painful. I sympathize with Ms. Chidiac for all her suffering, and seeing her deal so gracefully with her replacement hand is a kind of testament to courage. But her command of English is not strong – and Hale is no great speaker, either.

All in all, I was quite relieved to be able to change the channel and watch McCain and Obama.

(And for those of you who read Arabic: enjoy the subtitles!)
