stayin’ alive: I heart the UNIFIL Irish

Posted by adiamondinsunlight on January 9, 2008

Yesterday afternoon, a little before 3 pm, a bomb exploded on a bridge just north of Saida, hitting an Irish UNIFIL contingent. Two soldiers were injured, but – mercifully – none were gravely wounded.

This afternoon I came across a link to a video that part of the Irish UNIFIL contingent had made – a video so funny I almost cried, and then almost cried again thinking what a thankless task it is to be a UNIFIL soldier, whether in Lebanon or elsewhere.

I can’t embed the video directly thanks to WordPress’ prissy embed restrictions, but I can give you the link. I saw it on The Chancer’s blog but you can also view it directly on LiveLeak. If you’re a BeeGees fan or, like me, remember having to learn “The Hustle” in high school gym class, you’ll love it. And if you appreciate the efforts of a group of young Irishmen to find joy in a hardship posting, you’ll love it all the more.
